According to the SWUA mission, vision and purpose, we work to unite people with the common interest in Slovenian culture and traditions. One way to do this is by providing resources, such as the SWUA museum, recipes and links to related information on the internet.

A Taste of Slovenian Wines

For all of the wine connoisseurs we have found a new source of information on Slovenian wine. The http://www.slovenianpremiumwines.com/ web site is aesthetically attractive, but more importantly, user-friendly source of everything on Slovenian wine and where you can enjoy them in the United States. You can find introductions into wines by regions, presentation of Slovenian wine makers, and can use the site as a useful source of news and events. Na zdravje!

RecipesSlovenian recipes are available both on our web page and in the SWUA cookbook called More Pots and Pans.
MuseumThe Slovenian Heritage Museum has displays to visit and offers Heritage related items for sale. You did know that "There is love in every Slovenian, " didn 't you?
Tradition

Be sure to read about the wonderful Easter tradition "Zegen" here: http://www.radio.cz/en/article/64774

Web Links

The internet is a rich resource for learning about Slovenian heritage. The SWUA web links page has a few of these resources. If you have a favorite link that should be here, be sure to send it to our webmaster.

Slovenian Magazine (Program)Slovenian Magazine is a mosaic, a 25-minute show in English and German.

It presents current events in Slovenia, its cultural and historical heritage, attractive features of the landscape, and the country s economic and tourist potential. It places great stress on original Slovenian creativity. Slovenian Magazine is mainly intended for foreign countries, as well as for Slovenians living around the world.

The English version is on Channel 25 WNYE in New York every other Sunday. If you are living in the New York City area or visiting, be sure to check this out. The website lists an episode guide to give you an idea of the features of each program. http://www.rtvslo.si/slovenianmagazine/

Branches and members are encouraged to contact their PBS stations about getting this program shown in other areas of the U.S.

MoviesThe March-April 2005 Zarja, page 23 had a story about a movie being filmed on the Iron Range with Sissy Spacek (of Czech heritage from Texas). Here is a story from the Hibbing Daily Tribune:

"Sissy Spacek stops in Chisholm. Actress practices making strudel for upcoming movie "
This took place at the Slovenian Home in Chisholm!
